一、要搞清楚这一系列词的区别,首先需要弄明白 other 和 another 的词性.他们既可以作形容词也可以作代词：
1.形容词：放在名词前用作定语,表示另外的/其他的...
1）other 只用来修饰泛指的复数名词,如：
other books 其他的书籍
other peosons 其他的人们
2）another 只用来修饰泛指的单数名词,相当于 other 前加了不定冠词 an,如：
another book 另一本书
another person 另一个人
3）the other 用来修饰特指的复数名词或但数名词,如：
the other books 其他的那些书籍
the other book 另外的那本书
the other peosons 其他的那些人
the other peoson 另外的那个人
2.代词：相当于名词的语法功能,可以做主语或宾语.
1）another 指代泛指的单数名词,如：
One person followed by another.人一个接一个
This shirt is too big; I'll try another.这件衬衫太大了,我试试件别的.
2）others 指代泛指的复数名词,如：
Some are boys and others are girls.一些是男孩子而另一些是女孩子.
I don't like these shirts; I'd like to have a look at others.我不喜欢这些衬衫,我想看看别的.
3) the other 指代特指的单数名词,如：
There are two children; one is a boy and the other is a girl.有两个孩子,一个是男孩,那另一个是女孩.
You told me you have two shirts.I don't like this one,I'd like to see the other.你告诉我你有两件衬衣.我不喜欢这一件,我想看看另一件.
4）the others 指代特指的复数名词,如：
There are three children; one is a boy and the others are girls.有三个孩子,一个是男孩,另外的都是女孩.
You said you have four shirts.I don't like these two,I'd like to see the others.你告诉我你有四件衬衣.我不喜欢这两件,我想看看另外的那两件.
二、几点注意事项：
1.other 永远不能单独用作代词,要么用 another 指代泛指单数,要么用 the other 指代特指单数
2.other 用作定语,后面必须是复数名词；
3.复数形式 the others 和 others 只能是代词,不可放在名词前作定语.

4.the others意思是“其他东西，其余的人”。特指某一范围内的“其他的（人或物）”。是the other的复数形式。如：

the others=the other +复数名词，这在第2条中已经有所介绍。
5.another=an+ other，既可作形容词，也可作代词，只能用于三个或更多的人或物，泛指同类事物中的三者或三者以上的“另一个”，只能代替或修饰单数可数名词。如：
I don’t like this one. Please show me another.
我不喜欢这一个，请给我看看另一个。
I have three daughters. One is a nurse, another is a teacher and another is a worker.
